History of Grace Christian School

“An unfamiliar face is quite easy to spot in a small place. Grace Christian School, in the same buildings as Grace Chapel Church on US 1 South, is remarkable for its smallness, considered one of its most appealing attributes aside from its stated objective to adopt an instructional program to meet more adequately the need of the children than is being done in the public schools," so said the Sanford Herald on February 24, 1972.

The school was founded in the summer of 1970 by a group of concerned parents who desired an education that was distinctly Christian for their children. The first year there were a total of twenty students in kindergarten and first grade. The next year, grades two through four were added and enrollment reached sixty-four. In the years that followed, grades five through twelve were added with the first graduating class in 1985. The school presently has classes for children beginning at K5 through twelfth grade. (Preschool is also available for children four years and under.)

Over the years, the facilities have also grown. The church/school complex includes spacious new classrooms, modular units, state-of-the-art computer and science labs, an expanded library, the gymnasium, soccer and baseball fields, and playground areas. In the midst of all the expansion, GCS still maintains its focus on individual relationships.

Grace Chapel Church has supported the school as a community ministry by providing the facilities, utilities and financial support. The school falls under the authority and corporation of the church.
